About this event
Data scientists, developers, engineers, product designers, architects — we make decisions in our work everyday that pulls in our values and biases. Many people view technology as amoral, and neutral depending on the person or use it is put to. Ethically neutral? Ethical playground? Or an ethical minefield?
In this session, Dr. Derek Schuurman, Professor of Computer Science at Calvin University, will introduce content from a wonderful book he co-authored on the relationship of faith to the work of technologists, engineers and designers. Published in 2022 by IVP, this book is a valuable contribution to the literature of how we integrate our faith and our work, especially for engineers and others in the technology realms.
This event is hosted at Grace Bible Church, Grandville, by Jim VanderMey, Founder and Chief Innovation Officer of Open Systems Technologies (OST) a Grand Rapids based global technology services firm. Facilitating the discussion and Q&A is Dr. Paul Leidig, Professor and Director of the School of Computing at Grand Valley State University.
Snacks and drinks will be provided. Copies of the book, A Christian Field Guide to Technology for Engineers and Designers will be available at the event. Parking is plentiful and onsite.
Jim and Paul attend Grace Bible Church, the host location for this event, and along with Derek look forward to welcoming you to this open and inclusive discussion for the West Michigan tech community.
